Dr. Steven Lifland, Professor of Finance, holds current research interests in real estate valuation, corporate innovation with R&D and patents, ETFs, REITs, working capital management, and financial education. His paper on the Fallout of the Financial Crisis: Impact on Accounting, Management, and Marketing was the winner of the Best Paper Award at the Financial Services Institute Symposium in NYC. Other works have been published in the journals: Advances in Business Research, Review of Business, Journal of Accounting and Finance, and Journal of Academy of Business and Economics.

Dr. Lifland joined HPU in 1998 and has taught courses in both the MBA and undergraduate academic programs including financial management, international finance, portfolio analysis, corporate strategy, investment analysis, financial analysis, capital budget development, and personal financial planning. His professional philosophy is to create a class environment where faculty and students have the ability to analyze a vast array of financial and economic data and the opportunity to conduct interactive activities that simulate the actions of professional managers, traders and financial institutions. He believes that success occurs where the discussion is intellectually stimulating and where students can question the applications they have learned in a variety of settings.

As advisor to the Floyd T. Craven Investment Club at HPU, Dr. Lifland has mentored students in the choice of investments for the significant funds the club manages. He was instrumental in the selection of and training in the software available in the Wilson School of Commerce stock trading room.

Dr. Lifland serves the Earl N. Phillips School of Business (PSB) on the Assurance of Learning Committee (AOL), the Curriculum Committee, and the Tenure and Promotion Standards Committee. He also is the PSB representative to the HPU University Senate.

Dr. Lifland earned his Ph.D. in Finance, his MBA in Finance, and his B.S. in Accounting at Old Dominion University.
