Marnie Matthews serves as Assistant Professor of Accounting at High Point University. Mrs. Matthews came to HPU after a stellar career in the financial and accounting realm with Wake Forest University and the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She has held the positions of Manager of Financial Reporting and Accounting, Director of Financial Reporting and Accounting, Assistant Controller as well as Associate Controller with the University and Associate Controller at the Medical Center. In addition, she has also served in the assurance practice and held the position of Supervising Senior Accountant at KPMG Peat Marwick, LLP, specializing in the audits of manufacturing and not-for-profit organizations.
Mrs. Matthews holds the following professional certifications in the state of North Carolina:

• Certified in Forensic Financials (CFF)
• Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Mrs. Matthews is a member of several professional organizations including the AICPA, NCACPA, and ACFE. She has also served on the Planning Committee for the NCACPA’s Fraud and Forensic Accounting Conference.

In the fall of 2010, Mrs. Matthews began at HPU as an adjunct instructor in accounting and returned to teach in the spring of 2012. She took a fulltime position with HPU in the fall of 2012.

Mrs. Matthews earned both her B.S. in Business Administration and her Masters in Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received a full tuition scholarship from the AICPA to attend the AACSB Bridge Program in 2009. According to the AACSB Bridge Program website, this program is designed to prepare high-level senior executives for a professionally qualified faculty position within an AACSB accredited business school, and is designed to help individuals to:

• understand academic culture and today's students,
• discover what makes great teachers,
• develop effective teaching skills, and
• gain valuable insight into the student learning process.
