Assistant Professor of Accounting

|Dr. Premalata Sundaram is an Assistant Professor of Accounting at High Point University. She brings with her fourteen years of professional teaching experience and is a tremendous addition to the Earl N. Phillips School of Business (PSB). In addition to this experience, which includes positions at the College of Business at Clemson University, and the College of Business at Lander University, Dr. Sundaram has also been very active in working on original professional research.
She has conducted the following groups of research:
• Effect of derivatives trading on volatility in the stock market: Evidence from an emerging market, presented at the CFTC, Office of Economic Analysis, Washington, DC and the FDIC, Division of Insurance and Research, Washington, DC
• Isolating the effect of Sarbanes-Oxley Sec 404(b) on audit fees: evidence from a natural experiment, presented at the post-doctoral seminar at the University of Florida
• Check my work! Instantaneous feedback and student performance in an introductory financial accounting course, co-authored with Dr. Ross Roberts and presented at the Academy of Business Research Conference in Las Vegas and at the American Accounting Association meeting in Denver
Dr. Sundaram began working at HPU in 2010 and teaches financial accounting, intermediate accounting II, and auditing. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she serves on the Earl N. Phillips School of Business Assurance of Learning Evaluation Committee and the Curriculum Committee.
Dr. Sundaram earned her undergraduate degree and graduate degrees in accounting from the University of Mumbai, India. She later received her M.A. in Applied Economics from Clemson University, as well as her M.A. and her Ph.D. in Economics from Ohio State University. She recently completed the AACSB Post-Doctoral Bridge to Business Program in Accounting and Finance from the Warrington College of Business Administration at the University of Florida. She is also a member and charter holder of The CFA Institute, Charlottesville, VA and a Certified Management Accountant and Member of IMA.
