Laboratory Manager / Instrumentation Specialist

The High Point University Department of Chemistry and Department of Physics invite applications for a Laboratory Manager and Instrument Specialist beginning August 1, 2014. We seek outstanding candidates with preference given to those with a Master’s degree or higher in physics, chemistry or a closely related fields. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and relevant experience will also be considered. The successful candidate will have familiarity with the operation and maintenance of modern chemical analysis tools including spectroscopy, thermal analysis, chromatography, and microscopy, and must demonstrate the ability to learn new software and hardware. Duties will include coordinating introductory chemistry and physics laboratories, maintenance of current departmental instruments and equipment, identification and procurement of new instruments, training undergraduate students in their use, developing advanced laboratories using instrumentation, maintaining departmental safety protocols, and consulting with faculty on research and teaching projects. Teaching introductory level chemistry or physics classes is possible, but is not required.

High Point University, recently named the South’s number one “up and coming” school and number one in undergraduate teaching is in the midst of an exciting academic and cultural transformation, including the University’s launch of new programs in the health professions. The Chemistry and Physics Departments at High Point University currently serve approximately 60 undergraduate majors with degree programs in chemistry, biochemistry and physics. The Chemistry Department is preparing to apply for degree certification through ACS. The successful applicant will be expected to collaborate with faculty and administration on the design of a new science complex scheduled to be completed in 2018.
