ASSISTANT  PROFESSOR or INSTRUCTOR OF CHEMISTRY

The Department of Chemistry at High Point University invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Professor or Instructor of Chemistry position with a potential start date of June 2018. Preference will be given to candidates with training in organic chemistry and a demonstrated understanding of best practices in chemical education pedagogy. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory lecture and laboratory courses in general as well as organic chemistry. Other teaching assignments could include general education chemistry classes for non-science majors and interdisciplinary first year seminar courses. Candidates will be expected to teach at least one four week summer session starting in the Summer of 2019 in addition to the academic year. Candidates with a Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely-related discipline are eligible for appointment at the Assistant Professor rank. Candidates with a M.S. degree in chemistry are eligible for appointment at the Instructor rank.

The department supports degree programs in Chemistry and Biochemistry and a significant number of students preparing for careers in the health professions. High Point University, recently named the South’s number one “most innovative” school and number one in undergraduate teaching for 2018 is in the midst of an exciting academic and cultural transformation, including the University’s launch of new programs in the health professions and the construction of a new $60M undergraduate science building with a scheduled completion date of Fall 2019.

To apply, a letter of application, curriculum vitae, statements of teaching philosophy and a brief statement of research experience, and three letters of recommendation will be submitted online. Candidates who earned the Ph.D. within the past five years should also provide undergraduate and graduate transcripts (copies of official transcripts are acceptable).
