Speaker: Dr. Nido Qubein
Each year, President Nido R. Qubein inspires graduates and their families to plant seeds of greatness throughout their journey in life. This special address for all candidates for graduation and their guests is one of the most anticipated traditions surrounding Commencement Weekend.
Dr. Qubein is the recipient of the highest awards given for professional speakers including the Cavett (known as the Oscar of professional speaking), and many other honors such as the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, the Horatio Alger Award for Distinguished Americans, and the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. As a business leader, he is chairman of Great Harvest Bread Company and past president of the Big South Athletic Conference. He serves on the boards of several national organizations including BB&T, the La-Z-Boy Corporation, and DOTS. He is also the author of many books and audio programs, and teaches the President’s Seminar on Life Skills to all freshmen and the President’s Senior Seminar at HPU.
*All attendees of Onward with Faithful Courage will use their ticket for a complimentary lunch to be redeemed immediately following the ceremony at all open campus dining locations. All open dining locations will be also be accepting cash.
Complimentary tickets are required for this event, and must be picked up in advance. Each candidate for graduation is permitted a maximum of three guest tickets (the graduate will be required to show their Passport Card for entry).
Tickets are limited and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Tickets may be picked up on the Slane Student Center track on April 30 from 8:30am-7:00pm. From May 1 to May 7, tickets may be picked up during normal office hours (8:30am-5:00pm Monday-Friday and 10:00am-2:00pm Saturday) at the Slane Student Center Concierge Desk.
August and December 2019 candidates for graduation who are not able to pick up tickets at the designated location are asked to contact the Campus Concierge at (336) 841-4636.
Appropriate dress for this event is business attire.
The class photo and toast will be immediately following the ceremony at the Cottrell Amphitheater behind Cottrell Hall.
The program will be broadcast via closed-circuit television at the R. G. Wanek Center, Extraordinaire Cinema.
Guests are encouraged to take advantage of the shuttle service to the program. Shuttles will begin running at 9:30 a.m. from the parking lot adjacent to Congdon Hall. The shuttles will make a continuous loop from the parking lot to the Millis Center.
Parking for guests with special needs will be available on a first-come, first-served basis from the Congdon Hall parking lot. Guests will be transported on wheelchair accessible shuttles and dropped off at the front of the Millis Center.
