in the Pauline Theater [Hayworth Fine Arts Center]
Boasting a score with chart topping songs by Grammy and Academy Award winner, Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Children of Eden), and a book by a visionary playwright John-Michael Tebelak, Godspell took the world by storm, after it opened off-Broadway in 1971. The Gospel according to Matthew is brought vibrantly to life in this energetic musical comedy. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, delivers Jesus’ messages of kindness, tolerance and love; Godspell is a sensation that continues to touch audiences. The Theater, Dance and Music departments at High Point University will deliver a production that asks members of the audience to join the company onstage from time to time. This immensely successful rock opera broke new ground in its premiere, and this celebration of joy and love continues to inspire innovation as it explores one of humanity’s greatest events.
Performances at 7:30pm on April 2-4, 2020 and 2:00pm on April 5, 2020.
