Dr. Rick Overstreet came to High Point University in 2003 as an instructor for the Department of Exercise and Sports Science. He holds a B.S. degree in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training from Bluefield College, a Masters degree in Physical Education Radford University and a doctoral degree in Health Science in 2007 from Colton University. Dr. Overstreet is currently pursuing a second doctoral degree in International Health Science Education and Research from TUI University. He is an active member of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, the American Association for Physical Activity and Recreation, American Association for Health Education, Yellowstone Association and Yellowstone Foundation.
Dr. Overstreet has had significant experience in athletic coaching including collegiate track &field/ cross country at both Radford and High Point University. He has considerable expertise in the Fitness/Health Club industry and has served as Fitness Director at the YMCA and liaison for phase 3 and 4 of the Cardiac Rehabilitation program at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Overstreet is currently a personal fitness trainer and is a certified CPR instructor and Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
In 2010 Dr. Overstreet was appointed to serve as the Coordinator of Physical Education Activity Courses at High Point University. His personal philosophy is to focus on issues of overall student wellness which includes a commitment to getting individuals of all ages to engage in physical activity on a daily basis. Dr. Overstreet hopes to create a vision for motivating students to focus on their own wellness that will serve as a model for other institutions of higher education.
