Ed.D. Electronic Evidence I

In the courses EDU 7174 Exemplary Teaching Practices for 21st Century Schools and EDU 7175 Using Data to Inform Learning, Teaching and Leadership, the candidate will be expected to demonstrate skill in strategic and district instructional leadership. The project will require candidates to apply instructional leadership skills and view problems of practice through the lens of the Superintendent as an instructional leader. In the project, the candidate will be required to review the strategic plan and/or goals for a designated school district along with its accompanying documents such as school improvement plans, student performance data, safe schools plans, and teacher working conditions surveys. After the review, the candidate will identify the district’s high priority schools and design a targeted plan to address the instructional needs of these under performing schools. The targeted plan should include the following:

  • Inclusion of research based instructional strategies and best practices for improving school success and student achievement in the selected areas of focus covered in EDU 7174.
  • Development of a scheduling process for the targeted schools than maximizes instructional learning and ensures the protection of that time throughout the year
  • Specific achievement targets for the schools to reach over the next three years broken down by year including a plan for progress monitoring
  • Appropriate rewards and recognition for improved student achievement
  • Development of a presentation to highlight the results of the review, the goals of the plan and the implementation timetable

Directions and Candidate Requirements
Instructional improvement is a continuous goal for all districts! At the core of this goal is helping all schools in the district meet the needs of the students who attend that school. After reviewing the most recent EVAAS data, it has been determined that there are some schools in the district that need assistance with regard to improving instruction. You have been given the assignment of identifying these schools and designing an Instructional Improvement Plan that addresses the needs of these underperforming schools. This plan should be comprehensive, monitored, and benchmarked with a detailed timeline for implementation. It should also provide ample opportunity to celebrate instructional improvements and reward those who are contribute. Most of all it should employ research based instructional strategies including the use of Professional Learning Communities that have shown to be best practice for improving school success and student achievement. Upon completion of the plan, you will present it to the School Board for final approval. As you develop the plan, be sure that it includes the following:

  • Inclusion of research based instructional strategies and best practices for improving school success and student achievement
  • Use of Professional Learning Communities to provide support to provide ongoing support for teachers as they implement the instructional initiatives

Evaluation
The rubric for assessment of Electronic Evidence #1 (Leading Teaching and Learning) will be used by the two faculty members assigned to teaching EDU 7174 and EDU 7175. These two courses are offered as co-requisite requirements and will include Evidence #1 as a co-assignment spanning both courses. This evidence will constitute no less than 25% of the final grade in each of the two courses.

Candidates will be instructed to upload their final Electronic Evidence #1 to Foliotek.
