Pearson/Praxis II Specialty Exam Pass Rates

Effective Fall 2014, all undergraduate students who complete degrees in elementary education are required to pass the three Pearson test and all special education majors are required to pass the Praxis II Specialty Area Exam in order to be eligible for N.C. Teacher licensure.  Special education majors are required to attempt the three Pearson test during the first year of teaching and pass all three test in order to convert the initial SP1 to the SP2 license.  All other areas are required to attempt the North Carolina State Board of Education (SBE) approved Licensure Exam(s) for each initial licensure area at least once during the first year of teaching and pass the SBE approved exam(s) for each initial licensure area in order to convert the initial SP1 to the SP2 license.   These comprehensive examinations are standardized test typically taken at the end of the four year program of study. Questions include items related to theory and pedagogy, instructional practices and application of content and curriculum.  Tables prior to the 2014-2015 year, reflect those students who were required to pass the Praxis II Specialty Area exam in order to be licensed (i.e. elementary and special education majors) and those students electing to complete Praxis Specialty Exams in other areas in order to add additional teaching licenses in the areas of Reading Specialist, Mathematics, Physics, and Special Education:  Severe Populations.   Pass rates for the last three years are as follows:
