Internships and Experiential Learning

The Exercise Science major prepares students for careers in the health sciences through rigorous coursework and experiential learning. Courses in the Exercise Science major, including Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, Advanced Exercise Physiology, Exercise Testing and Prescription, utilize the new Human Biomechanics and Physiology Laboratory to supplement their learning experience. Additionally, the Exercise Science major offers an Undergraduate Research Experience course that allows qualified students to participate in research and receive between one and four credits for their work.

Students have completed internships within all aspects of exercise science, such as physical therapy, occupational therapy (both in and outpatient), and strength and conditioning. Students have gained real-world experience with internships at:

  • New York Yankees
  • HPU Athletics
  • High Point CrossFit
  • Athletic Republic
  • Velocity Sports Performance
  • Camp La Jolla (one of the country’s premier youth weight loss camps)
  • Minor league baseball and soccer
