Art Exhibits: “Invention as Art” and “High Point University Explores The Art of Seating”

September 27 @ 9:00 am - 7:30 pm

“Invention as Art”

An invention is a unique novel device, method, composition or process.  It may be an improvement something existing, or a new process for creating an object or a result. For an invention to crossover and be designated a work of art it must adhere to certain aesthetic principles and standards. This exhibition explores the realm of constructed invention in 2D and 3D format, showing artwork in the form of drawings and sculptural works, including kinetic sculpture that started out as invention.

“High Point University Explores The Art of Seating”

The university’s School of Art & Design presents an exhibition of innovative student and faculty chair designs. Our exhibit is on display in conjunction with the Reynolda House Museum of American Art’s special exhibit, The Art of Seating: Two Hundred Years of American Design. More than 40 iconic chairs featured at the museum provide a point of reference for the chair prototypes and ideation designed by our own students and faculty at High Point University.  Design students learn to combine artistic forms with emerging technologies to bring an original idea to prototyping, manufacturing, and global marketing. Furnishings and product designers consider limited resources, material life cycles, aesthetics and product placement to attract a targeted customer.
