9:00 A.M. – 8:00 P.M. Art Exhibit: “Merry Moor Winnett: A Photographic Perspective”
Location: Hayworth Fine Arts Center, Sechrest Art Gallery
Due to popular demand, the Gallery will extend the showing of Merry Moor Winnett’s works. Winnett (1951-1994) established herself in the late 1970s as the queen of experimental photography, known for infrared, hand painted, toned, stitched, composite-printed images of seemingly endless innovation. Whimsical and complex images were predominant in her early career, while the later years were mixed between the tragedy of cancer and the exuberance of life.

Family Weekend isn’t just for parents and siblings! Grandparents are an important part of the High Point University community, too. Mingle with other HPU grandparents and their students over a continental breakfast and learn the many ways you can become involved with High Point University.

Location: Human Biomechanics Lab
The Human Biomechanics and Physiology Lab houses state-of-the-art research equipment utilized by students and faculty studying a variety of fields including physical therapy, exercise science, athletic training, biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics and more. Students can study injury prevention and rehabilitation methods, as well as methods to improve human physiologic response to activity and overall physical performance. Transportation will be provided from the R. G. Wanek Center Shuttle Stop. Please arrive by 9:50 A.M.
10:00 A.M. - 11:30 A.M.Campus Walking Tour
Location: R.G. Wanek Center, Main Level
Please arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled tour time, as the tour group will leave on time. This is a walking tour of campus, so please dress accordingly.
10:15 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. Sibling Admissions Overview and Tour
Location: R. G. Wanek Center, Extraordinaire Cinema
This program allows siblings of HPU students an opportunity to get to learn more about the university, the place where their brother or sister will be living and learning during the next few years.
10:30 A.M. - 11:30 A.M. HPU Lecture Series: Dr. Brad Barlow “A Zombie Star Lurking in Our Cosmic Backyard”
Location: Norton Hall, La-Z-Boy Room 101
Type 1A supernovae are some of the largest explosions we know about and are important tools for determining the fate of our universe. These events are consistent with a stellar corpse that comes back to life and explodes after sucking matter off of a nearby companion star. Presented is the discovery of a pair of objects that will soon become a ‘zombie star’ system and explode as a Type 1A supernova. Surprisingly, this system is located in our Solar neighborhood; when it explodes, its brightness will rival the brightest stellar event in recorded history.

1:00 P.M. - 1:30 P.M.Biography Channel Video “Nido R. Qubein, A Life of Success and Significance”
Location: R.G WC, Cinema
The extraordinary life accomplishments of Nido R. Qubein, president of High Point University, recently captured the attention of Biography Channel producers. Interested in sharing his story with millions of viewers, a Biography Channel production team stormed the HPU campus last spring for several days. Cameramen filmed the campus and interviewed students, faculty and staff while producers sat down with Dr. Qubein to discuss his life’s journey. The result? A 30-minute documentary titled: Nido R. Qubein, A Life of Success and Significance.
1:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M. HPU Lecture Series: Brian Biro "Breakthrough Leadership"
Location: Phillips Hall, Francis Auditorium
Ultimately, no matter what field High Point University students dive into, they will be in the BREAKTHROUGH business! The key to lasting success both personally and professionally is breaking through fears, obstacles, habits, or doubts that hold us back from our true potential. At High Point University students are encouraged to see themselves as breakthrough leaders! This presentation creates a fresh, new, and exciting vision of leadership for life!
2:15 P.M. - 3:00 P.M. HPU Lecture Series: Dr. Mark Teaford
Location: Phillips Hall, Francis Auditorium
How do we know what our ancestors were eating in the distant past? Their teeth give us crucial clues, but we need information from the present to gain insights into the past. This talk will pull together information from Dr. Teaford’s research on laboratory monkeys, dental patients, and even monkeys in the wild to show some new perspectives on the topic.

Location: WC, Extraordinaire Cinema
Inventor Flint Lockwood thought he saved the world when he destroyed his most infamous invention, a machine that caused cheeseburger rain and spaghetti tornadoes. But Flint soon learns that his invention survived and is now creating "foodimals !" Flint and his friends embark on a dangerously delicious mission to battle hungry tacodiles, shrimpanzees, hippotatomuses, and cheespiders to save the world.
3:30 P.M. - 4:30 P.M.HPU Lecture Series: Dr. Don Martin “The Changing Landscape of Public Education”
Location: Phillips Hall, Francis Auditorium
The advent of charter schools, voucher programs, and public school choice have dramatically altered how society views elementary and secondary education in the US. State Legislatures and Governors are allocating public dollars to support private education. Is there a new governance structure that could bring under one umbrella all publically funded education efforts that would improve the likelihood of increased student performance ? Maybe – this lecture will explore some possibilities.
4:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M.HPU Lecture Series: Curator of Grounds Jon Roethling “Warming up the Winter Landscape”
Location: Qubein Communication, Screening RoomWhether through flower, fragrance, fruit or form there are many pleasant surprises which can brighten the winter days on the campus of High Point University. Join Curator of Grounds, Jon Roethling on a photographic journey of the many highlights that have been added over the last few years. Additionally, a glimpse of some projects on the horizon will also be touched upon.

A HPU Family Weekend badge and/or Student Passport is required to access the Men's Basketball game. Guests with badges and/or Student Passports will be welcomed 60 minutes before the start time of the game, beginning at 6:00pm.

The Choral Department, consisting of University Singers, Chamber Singers, Chapel Choir, and Women’s Choir, will present an exciting program of choral music from ancient to modern and incorporate a wide variety of styles.
