WE ARE WITH YOU

11.3.2012

All the families in the path of Hurricane Sandy are in our thoughts and prayers. Let me share with you the message President Qubein sent to the HPU Family today about our involvement to help in this recovery effort for the many families affected.

Dear Staff:

All those in the path of Hurricane Sandy are in our thoughts and prayers. I thought you would want to see the message I shared with our students earlier today.

It saddens us that many families have been impacted by Hurricane Sandy. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you, your loved ones, and all those in the path of the storm. As you and your families begin the process of recovering and rebuilding, please know that your HPU Family is focused on helping those of you who have been affected. Dr. Don Scarborough, Vice President for Community Relations, is available to assist with any concern.  The university established a hotline for anyone who needs support AND for those of you who simply want us to know about your roommates or other friends who may need assistance. Please call 336-841-9214 or email wecare@highpoint.edu anytime for a caring voice.

High Point University is partnering with the American Red Cross to channel all of our relief efforts. Beginning today and continuing for weeks, you will see university sponsored events and initiatives designed to provide support to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Look for the “HPU – We Care” logo at all designated events.

Many of you have reached out to me to express your desire to make a difference, to help those devastated by the storm, or simply share your prayers for the victims. I admire your intent and salute your spirit.  The Office of Student Life will work with the SGA, other student groups, and individuals who are focused on making a difference. You are energetic, full of creative ideas, and passionate about serving others.  You will no doubt contribute greatly to the cause. To partner with you, HPU will match, dollar-for-dollar, funds raised through all university AND student-sponsored initiatives.

Our HPU family is founded on the values of service, gratitude, generosity, and compassion.  Remember: Your present circumstances don’t determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start. Together, right now, let us stay focused on contributing positively to the recovery efforts. With our collective prayers and generous actions, we will move forward.

Nido R. Qubein
