In September, 2013, High Point University announced its affiliation with The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC) in Washington, DC and established the High Point Washington (HPW) program. This selective program enables High Point University students to spend an exciting semester living, working, and studying in the nation’s capital, while earning High Point University academic credit.
Each fall, spring, and summer term, a group of High Point University students participate in an intensive program at The Washington Center (TWC). While there, students are immersed in a full-time (32-36 hour per week) internship relevant to their field of study, complete an academic course, design and conduct a civic engagement project, and participate in a leadership forum.
Washington, DC provides the perfect location for this type of program as it offers opportunities unavailable elsewhere. Not surprisingly, as the center of US government, it provides countless options for those interested in politics or national and international governmental affairs. Washington, DC, however, is also home to thousands of businesses, nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups, media outlets, and professional organizations.
Internship opportunities exist for most High Point University majors. Opportunities are available for those interested in the arts and humanities, education, media and communications, physical and mental health, international relations, business and trade, legal affairs and criminal justice, science, and the environment.
