High Point University visited the NASDAQ MarketSite in New York City's Times Square on March 8 for a special occasion - they were there to ring the closing bell. A group of High Point University faculty members, administrators and students were included in the memorable event. Dr. Nido Qubein, president of HPU, rang the bell at 4 p.m. Video of the bell-ringing aired on the NASDAQ MarketSite tower.
March 10, 2010 – Ed Simpson, professor of theatre and chair of the Department of Theatre at High Point University, will be featured on "Triad Today," at 6:30 a.m. on Friday, March 12. The program airs on the local ABC affiliate, WXLV-ABC 45 (Time Warner channel 7). During his appearance, Simpson will discuss his play, "Elephant Sighs," which was recently made into a movie, starring film legend Ed Asner.
High Point University will host the annual Spring Music Festival of Worship - combining the talents of the congregation and choirs of Hayworth Chapel along with the Department of Music. The festival will be held at the 5:30 p.m. worship service on March 24 in the Hayworth Chapel. The music-filled celebration is open to the public.
High Point University will host the Big South Women’s Basketball Tournament March 12-14 – drawing a crowd of teams and fans that will flood the High Point area during this popular event. Eight teams will be competing in the tournament – four quarterfinal games on Friday, March 12; two semifinal games on Saturday, March 13; and the championship game on Sunday, March 14.
High Point University is the recipient of a $1 million gift from the BB&T Foundation in support of its entrepreneurship program. The university has raised nearly $120 million recently towards its transformation in academics, student life and campus enhancement. "We are most impressed with the enormous growth and the extraordinary transformation of HPU, said Kelly King, chairman and chief executive officer of BB&T Corporation.
