It has been a crazy few weeks with many opportunities and so many experiences! Last week was a calm week in the sense that there were no major events at night. I spent a lot of time working on their online database, CRM360, updating constituents’ information. In the middle of one of my days, I was given the nice surprise of being told that my computer monitor was going to be updated. I cannot remember the last time I saw a monitor as old as the one that I had been working on! It was a good reminder for me that as I enter the nonprofit world, not everything will be the most up-to-date, but it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t work just fine!
On Friday, I had the opportunity to attend the Cycle and Health Expo in Boston which was a cycling health fair. The other intern, Katherine, and I drove into the city and got everything set up. We weren’t there for long, but it was a great opportunity for me to see another component of the outreach department.
This week has already been busy, and it’s only Tuesday! Monday, was JDRF’s Annual Meeting. There were a number of speakers that evening, however, the most important part of the night was the honoring of the JDRF Boston Marathon Team. As we all know, Marathon Monday turned into a nightmare here in Boston. The JDRF team members were incredible troopers, though! On Monday, the Executive Director, Amy, presented all of the runners with a medal and framed picture of the team. Additionally, the team presented Amy with a gift for the office. The stories from marathon day were hard to hear, but also very inspiring. It showed that JDRF is a family through everything – starting with the fight to cure Type 1 Diabetes and ending at the finish line of the Boston Marathon.
