HPU Director Of Nonprofit Management Takes Part In Service Mission In Peru

David F. Walker, associate professor and director of the nonprofit management program at High Point University, took quite an adventure this summer - he traveled to Peru for two weeks as part of a service mission. "Our meeting with him was to discuss the organization's efforts to stop the pollution and other contamination caused by a smelting operation in La Oroya, Peru," Walker explains.

HPU Holds Convocation, Orientation Activities

High Point University celebrated the start of a new academic year on Aug. 24 with the school's Opening Convocation, which welcomed a record 930 new students into the HPU family. The event was also a chance for faculty and administrators to welcome back students, and also set the stage for their education at HPU. Speakers at the event included Dan Costello, student body president; Andy Bills, vice president for enrollment; and Dr. Nido Qubein, president of HPU.

HPU Hires Nunez As Spanish Professor

Virginia Nunez has been hired as a Spanish instructor at High Point University. In her position, Nunez will teach four groups of Spanish 101, and will also advise students. "I believe it is very important for students to have access to other cultures and realities through the study of foreign languages," says Nunez. "Our world has indeed become flat and I am very excited to work for a university that has a global vision."
