Changes at the university are drawing prospective students. The university is expecting a percentage increase in the double digits in its traditional
freshman class this fall.
Some of the changes on campus -- free carwashes and kiosks that give away beverages and snacks, for example -- are part of Qubein's branding of the
university as a place where students can learn in a fun environment. But what some may see as unorthodox perks, Qubein said, is a way to teach
students principles such as the value of generosity, work and appreciation.

President Reveals $20 Million in Fundraising Efforts
HIGH POINT, N.C., Feb. 3, 2005 - Nido Qubein, High Point University's new president,
revealed fund-raising results totaling $20 million, just 29 days after he took office
and told a group of community leaders he would lead efforts to raise $10 million
within 60 days. He pledged the first $1 million gift himself and challenged his friends to do the same.
The university surpassed its original goal on two counts: it received commitments
for $20 million, not $10 million - and did it in 29 days, not 60.
