HPU Junior Assists with Broadway 'Boot Camp'

HIGH POINT, N.C., July 9, 2008 - Cody Russell, a junior at High Point University, assisted the 8th Annual Camp Broadway recently in Jacksonville, Fla., near his hometown of Jacksonville Beach.

Russell, a Performance Theatre major at HPU, served as a teaching assistant at the camp June 16-20. The camp is a "boot camp" experience for youths ages 10 to 17. Campers in the program received an intensive week of instruction from New York actors and teachers and locally hired teaching assistants.

It was Russell's job to assist the actors and teachers by helping teach lines, songs and dances.

"I appreciated the thoughtful and caring guidance Cody gave to the campers all week long," said Karen Longacre, marketing manager for the FCCJ Artist Series, the organization that presents the camp in Jacksonville. "He had a warm approachable manner and lent his expertise to his group of campers, which enhanced their enjoyment of Camp Broadway."
