HPU Professor Publishes Book On War In The Age Of Colonial Empires
HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 6, 2009 - Dr. Frederick Schneid, professor of history at High Point University, recently published a chapter in the book, "Fighting Techniques of the Colonial Era, 1776-1914."
Schneid, who co-authored the book, explains that the work is part of a series examining the evolution of European warfare from the ancient world to the present. This book is the fifth volume in the series.
"I contributed the chapter on generalship in the age of colonial empires," Schneid says. “The book offers a detailed analysis of the strategy, tactics and weapons of colonial warfare from the American Revolution to the First World War. War on four continents is explored in this volume, with particular attention paid to battles, including Guilford Courthouse, Little Big Horn, Omdurman, Adowa, Delhi, Islandhwana and others."
Schneid adds the series serves as a great tool for students who are new to the subject of military history. Three-dimensional color maps, illustrations and photographs help to highlight the period.
