HPU Professor Of History Presents At Chile Conference
HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 20, 2009 – Dr. Renzo Honores, assistant professor of history at High Point University, presented a paper, titled "Hacia una historia de la profesión legal en los Andes" ("Toward a History of the Legal Profession in the Andes"), at the Segundas Jornadas Chileno-Peruanas de Historia del Derecho (Second Chilean-Peruvian Meeting in Legal History) in Valparaíso, Chile. The meeting brings together legal historians from Chile, Peru, Spain and the United States.
In his presentation, Honores discussed the experience of the legal profession in several cities of the Andes, in particular in Lima and Potosí. He explained the profession as a wide concept and examined why it should include not only lawyers, but others as well, including procurators, informal practitioners, scribes and other classes.
"The meeting was a valuable and enriching experience," Honores says. "It was an opportunity to discuss methodologies, theoretical approaches and empirical studies on legal history in Chile and Peru. In addition, it was held in an environment of camaraderie and discussions were an invitation to rethink our topics of interest."
