Donna Hughes to Perform at High Point University
HIGH POINT, N.C., Feb. 16, 2007 – High Point University welcomes alumna and bluegrass artist Donna Hughes to the Hayworth Fine Arts Center Feb. 28 at 7 p.m.
"We are excited to welcome Donna back on campus," said university President Nido Qubein. "We enjoy following her career and applaud her success in the singing and songwriting arenas."
A native of Trinity, Hughes was a Cum Laude graduate of High Point University and holds a B.A. in history. She has written more than 100 songs, one of which appears on the Allison Krauss album, "Lonely Runs Both Ways." Bluegrass veterans The Seldom Scene recently recorded her song, "Sad Old Train." Hughes has released two albums: "Somewhere In Time" (2001) and "Same Old Me" (2006), which was produced by bluegrass music legend Tony Rice, and has a new album, "Gaining Wisdom," due out later this month. Her latest release was also produced by Rice, and will include guest support from Alison Krauss, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Rhonda Vincent and many others.
The concert is free and open to the public.
