HPU's Betsy Merricks Presents Research at Sharing Conference

HIGH POINT, N.C., Jan. 17, 2008 - Betsy Merricks recently presented her research at the Florida Resource Sharing Conference at the University of Central Florida's Rosen College in Orlando, Fla.

Merricks, head of the Interlibrary Loan Borrowing and Lending Department at High Point University's Smith Library, presented "Resource Sharing: The Exploration of Policies and Non-Circulating Reference Materials" – a topic she has researched in her many library science graduate study courses. Her presentation explored several theories on how to meet the research needs of undergraduate students with the assistance of meta-search engines and technology.

"Allowing quick access to invaluable reference materials electronically as well as in print will help create a healthy competitive market and, in turn, can affect the cost," Merricks said.

Merricks, who has been a member of the Smith Library staff since 2005, received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in English from Eastern Carolina University.

She has experience with the English Department and Joyner Library Special Collections at ECU, and also served as Intern Content Writer for the Orlando Sentinel. She anticipates an August 2008 completion of her Master of Library Science.
