Personal Summary
James M. Smoliga joined High Point University in 2012 as an Associate Professor of Physiology and currently serves as Associate Director of the Institute for Human Health and Sports Science Research. Dr. Smoliga earned his PhD in Sports Medicine and Nutrition from the School Of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh in 2007 and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in 2003. Dr. Smoliga currently has over 20 peer-review publications and has authored or coauthored over 50 scientific abstracts on a wide range of topics. His research interests are divided into two main areas. One area of research explores the effects of resveratrol, an antioxidant found in grapes, on various aspects of human health. Dr. Smoliga’s other area of research interest is evaluating relationships between physiology, the neuromuscular system, and biomechanics in relation to sports performance and injuries, with an emphasis on endurance sports. Dr. Smoliga is also an avid runner who competed collegiately in Cross Country and Track and Field for Rutgers University. He is written articles for mainstream running magazines, such as Running Times.
