Congratulations to Jacob Brooks (’16), Hallie Stidham (’16), Matt Iczkowski (’17), Simeon Simeonides (’17), Michael Cantor (’16), and Alan Vasquez (’17)! Their paper discussing the NASA Micro-g NExT project, entitled “The Chip ‘n’ Ship: A Prototype Rock Chip Sampling Tool for Use on Microgravity Bodies,” was recently published in Volume XI of Explorations, the Journal of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities for the State of North Carolina. Explorations covers a wide range of topics, from the humanities to the sciences, and gives NC undergraduates the opportunity to be published in a peer-reviewed journal and showcase their work. If you would like to read our team’s Chip ‘n’ Ship paper, you can download Volume XI of Explorations. As the manuscript states in the Acknowledgements section, this work would NOT have been possible without the help of Eric Scarlett (who provided many hours of prototype development and creative, practical engineering insight) and Jeremy Allen (who gave us access to his metal-shaping facility during construction and helped manufacture several of the device’s pieces).
We are grateful to the HPU Student Government Association for their financial support.
