Research Administration and Sponsored Programs Research Misconduct
The National Science Foundation (NSF) defines Research Misconduct as the fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism in proposing or performing research funded by NSF, reviewing research proposals submitted to NSF, or in reporting research results funded by NSF.”
1. Fabrication: making up data or results and recording or reporting them.
2. Falsification: manipulating research materials, equipment, or processes, or changing or omitting data or results such that the research is not accurately represented in the research record.
3. Plagiarism: the appropriation of another person’s ideas, processes, results or words without giving appropriate credit.
It is important to note that research misconduct does not include honest errors or differences of opinion.
All individuals who observe research misconduct at High Point University should report it to the Director of Research Administration and Sponsored Programs at (336) 841-9313 or email@example.com. The Director will ensure that both the whistle blower and respondent are treated fairly and maintain confidentiality to the greatest extent possible.
Penalties for research misconduct can be severe and result in disbarment from receiving federal funds and corrective actions at High Point University.
