About Us

The Department of Religion and Philosophy offers both major and minor programs in Philosophy and Religion. Through these programs, the department seeks to provide inquiry into the ideas, beliefs and values that have shaped human history. Steeped in the liberal arts and consistent with the mission of the University, departmental programs offer opportunity for students to engage in critical thinking while cultivating the growth and development of the whole person.

In the last 14 years:

  • 65.5% of Religion majors have gone on to attend graduate programs
  • 56% of Philosophy majors have gone on to attend graduate programs

Join us on Oct. 27 and 28 for a two-part conversation on race in our churches and communities. The discussion will be lead by esteemed theologians Dr. Shawn Copeland, Boston College, and Dr. Willie Jennings, Duke Divinity School. See more about the events by clicking here.

You can join the Religion and Philosophy faculty for lunch in the back room of the Cafe on the first Wednesday of each month. They will be there to meet and talk with you about anything religion or philosophy related from 12-1PM on October 2nd, November 6th, and December 4th.
