I joined the Department of Religion and Philosophy in the fall of 2011 after finishing my Ph.D. I chose to study ethics because I’ve always been interested in the question of what it means to be human.  My dissertation examined how a person’s understanding of God can affect their ethical views. I’m currently researching the ethics of food and eating. I think our small, everyday choices, such as what to eat, what to wear, and what to buy, require serious ethical consideration.

Some of my publications and presentations include, “The ‘Real Housewives’ of Sustainable Food Production,” “Virtue, Vice, and a Hot Dog Eating Contest,” and “What Kind of Becoming? Luce Irigaray, Catherine Keller, and Virtue Ethics.”

When I’m not teaching, I enjoy camping and backpacking, cooking, and reading science books. I also help coach a high school swim team in the winter and a kids’ swim team in the summer.
