The HPU Security Department contains an Investigations Unit comprised of experienced investigators to assist the HPU community in successfully resolving a variety of campus incidents. The goals of the Investigations Unit are to be an advocate for students, assist students that had been victimized, and to recover misappropriated property and return property to the owners. The Investigations Unit works closely with the HPU Office of Student Life, HPU Judicial Affairs, local law enforcement and judicial services.
Meet our Staff
Captain Stafford is responsible for overseeing investigations of campus incidents, compliance with federal mandates (Title IX & Clery Act), and crime prevention programs. He serves as the HPU liaison with law enforcement and judicial officials.
Captain Stafford served for 30 years with the High Point Police Department. He retired in 2011 serving as an Assistant Chief of Police. Captain Stafford graduated from Appalachian State University before joining the High Point Police Department.
He has attended executive training and leadership programs at the FBI National Academy, Harvard University, NC State University, in addition to an abundance of other service related training.His office is located at the North College Administration Building at 1911 N. Sergeant. Donald Belton, Jr. is a High Point University Alumni with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. Upon graduating from the University, Sergeant Belton joined the newly formed Security department in 2008 and has served in multiple roles for the department throughout his five years here.

Campus Security Authorities (CSA)
High Point University has identified many staff and faculty members as Campus Security Authorities (CSA’s). Campus Security Authorities are individuals who are involved in security or who have a significant responsibility for student and campus activities. These staff and faculty members must report crimes to High Point University’s Security Department or the High Point Police Department and inform the victim of help that is available to them.
