HPU Officer named Officer of the Year

Security Officer Amber Kellam was recently named the Officer of the Year by the National Association of Campus Safety Administrators (NACSA) for her life-saving actions while responding to a medical emergency on campus. Kellam was the first officer on scene for an unknown medical assist call and discovered an unresponsive patient. She performed CPR on the patient until Guilford County EMS arrived on scene, and requested an AED be brought to her location. Patient care was transferred to Guilford County EMS, and the patient has since made a full recovery.

Kellam joined the High Point University Security Department in July 2014, having previous experience working in the Security field. Additionally, Kellam earned her Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Guilford Technical Community College. Kellam serves as a Field Training Officer for the Charlie Team night-shift of HPU Security Officers, and proves to be a continued asset to the High Point University Security Department.

For Kellam’s actions, she was awarded the HPU Security’s Shield of Honor Award which recognizes meritorious service of officers whose actions have distinguished themselves on behalf of the Department and University.
