HPU SERVES Showcase

The HPU SERVES Showcase is our chance to celebrate service as a vital part of an HPU education.  The Showcase is a night where HPU friends and High Point community members join together in a night filled with music, refreshments, awards, and testaments to the good work we have accomplished!

All HPU students and groups are invited to create a poster to share the service they have done over the past academic year at the HPU SERVES Showcase. For instructions on how to create a poster, click here: SERVES 2014 Showcase Poster Instructions.  All students or groups who intend to create a poster must notify Alex Nelson (nelso310@highpoint.edu) by March 24, and all students or groups who want their poster considered for an award must email a PDF file of the final poster to Alex Nelson by March 24th as well. All students or groups who create a poster should be prepared to come early to the Showcase to set up (4 PM), and they should have a two minute summary of their project prepared to tell people who come to view the poster.

Each year the SGA and SL Program work together to fund a number of awards. In 2013 we presented the following awards (for the full news story please click here):

1) The first two awards take into account the visual appeal, service accomplished, and the students’ reflections on the value of the service to the community and students’ lives.

  • Extraordinary Service Poster: English 4140: Community Writing with Dr. Kozma ($150)
  • Excellent Service Poster: Board of Stewards ($100)

2) The next award is given to the HPU student organization that has made the biggest impact on and off campus through their efforts to serve others in the community. This award requires two posters to be created by the student group.

  • Largest Student Group Community Impact: Civitan Club ($250)

3) The next award is given to the student or group that initiated a powerful new project to serve the community. This award requires the creation of a poster in order to be considered.

  • Best Student Driven Project: Teachers of Tomorrow ($250)

4) This award is given to the faculty member who has made the biggest impact on students and the community through his or her service learning course/s.

  • Service Learning Teacher of the Year: Amy MacArthur ($150)

5) This award is given to a student nominated by a Service Learning faculty member, and the student must create an original poster based on his or her service experience. The student will display a firm grasp of service learning concepts including reflection on civic leadership and ethics.

  • Best Service Learning Student: Erin Karpovich ($250)

6) This award is given to the community partner who has done the most to provide HPU students with meaningful service, leadership, and learning experiences.

  • Community Partner of the Year: Macedonia Family Resource Center ($750)
