Director of Study Abroad
Heidi serves as the Director of Study Abroad, advising High Point University students to help them find a program that will meet their personal, professional, and academic needs and goals. Originally from Germany, Heidi is a first-generation college graduate of High Point University (International Business & French) and earned her MA in International Affairs at American University in Washington, DC. Prior to her move to HPU, Heidi served as the study abroad advisor for business majors at UNC Greensboro for seven years. She is a long-term member of chancel choirs, and has performed major works with the Winston-Salem Symphony, the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra and the Eastern Music Festival.
Study Abroad Advisor
Chris is our Study Abroad Advisor and assists High Point University students studying business, communications and foreign languages in finding relevant and impactful experiences abroad. Chris plays a large role in promotional activities for HPU’s study abroad programs, but he also assists with other programs, such as EXP 4999: The President’s Seminar for Seniors and IDS 1151: Cultural Foundations. After graduating from HPU, he moved to China for a year to work with college students, pursue Chinese language study, and travel to various locations throughout China, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and Thailand. He enjoys travel, history, dancing, disc golf, and many outdoor activities.
Joy serves as the Program Coordinator in the Office of Study Abroad. She greets all visitors to the office, assists with the application process for both outgoing and incoming students, supervises the International Ambassadors and student employees, acts as the main point-of-contact for incoming exchange/study abroad students, and completes a number of other office functions. Joy earned both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Teaching degrees from The College of New Jersey. She also holds a Master of Education degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs from the University of South Carolina. Joy had the pleasure of completing two separate international internships in Ireland and in the Netherlands (with Tilburg University). She enjoys traveling, learning about different cultures, spending time with family and friends, writing, and sports.
Dr. Chris Clary
Chris serves as our Study Abroad Program Developer and helps design and implement our May faculty-led, short-term Global Experience courses. Originally from Colorado, he earned bachelor degrees in history and English from the University of Colorado, Boulder and a PhD in English Renaissance literature and culture from Northwestern University. Chris has traveled extensively in Europe and published and presented on topics including the culture of biological oddity collecting in Renaissance England, the history of gender and anatomy in the Renaissance, and staged animal/human relationships on the early modern stage. At his previous institution, he taught courses in the English, Theatre, and Honors departments and led multiple study abroad courses in London and New York. In college and graduate school, Chris also raced on his university cycling teams, competing in the national collegiate championships in 2007.
