Heidi Fischer

Director of Study Abroad

Heidi serves as the Director of Study Abroad, advising High Point University students to help them find a program that will meet their personal, professional, and academic needs and goals. Originally from Germany, Heidi is a first-generation college graduate of High Point University (International Business & French) and earned her MA in International Affairs at American University in Washington, DC. Prior to her move to HPU, Heidi served as the study abroad advisor for business majors at UNC Greensboro for seven years. She is a long-term member of chancel choirs, and has performed major works with the Winston-Salem Symphony, the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra and the Eastern Music Festival.

Chris is our Study Abroad Advisor and assists High Point University students studying business and foreign languages in finding relevant and impactful experiences abroad. Chris plays a large role in promotional activities for HPU semester programs, but he also assists with other programs, such as EXP 1101: The President’s Seminar on Life Skills, EXP 4999: The President’s Seminar for Seniors, and IDS 1151: Cultural Foundations. After graduating from HPU, he moved to China for a year to work with college students, pursue Chinese language study, and travel to various locations throughout China, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and Thailand. He enjoys travel, history, dancing, disc golf, and many outdoor activities.

Kristen works with HPU’s Global Experience “Maymester” programs, taking them from concept to completion. She recently earned an MS in Global & International Education, and has been serving part-time in our office since April 2013. Kristen previously studied abroad for one semester each in Russia and Estonia during her undergraduate studies in Greensboro, where she met Heidi. Kristen is the Executive Director of the American Belarussian Relief Organization in Winston-Salem, a nonprofit organization that brings Belarussian children to the U.S. every summer to provide a clean air environment, rest, and medical treatment to those affected by the 1986 Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant disaster.

Erin serves as the Program Coordinator, helping keep the office running smoothly and working with the International Ambassador team. Erin earned her BA in German from Wake Forest University and her MA in German Studies from a joint program with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University. During her undergraduate studies, Erin studied abroad for one semester each in Berlin, Germany, and Vienna, Austria. After graduation she received a Fulbright grant to teach English in Austria for one year. She enjoys travel, cooking, spending time with friends and family, and watching sports.



A Note of Thanks

The Office of Study Abroad wishes to express its sincere gratitude to long-time staff member Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Murphy and her 19 years of dedicated service to High Point University. Mrs. Murphy left High Point University in May 2013 to spend more quality time with her family and grandchild, and to have time to travel. EA – We miss you! The office is definitely not the same without you, but we wish you safe travels and much happiness! Send us a postcard now and then.
