Since Blackboard is a web based tool, it will only work properly in certain web browsers. There are some known issues with using a non-supported web browser.  Recently there has been issues using Blackboard in certain browsers. Please follow the steps and guides below to make sure you are using a supported browser when using Blackboard.


Step 1: Check your Browser

Please see Blackboard’s supported browsers guide to determine if the browser you are using is compatible. You may click here to find out which browser you are using.

If your browser version is outdated, you will need to update to a newer version. If your browser is unsupported, you will need to install a supported browser from the appropriate site (see links below).


Step 2: Adjust Browser Settings

It is also critical that specific settings be adjusted in the browser. Once you have confirmed that your browser is supported, use this browser settings guide to ensure that a few critical settings in your browser are correct. You will need to close your browser and open it again for the changes to take effect.


Step 3: Enabling Java, Updates and Clearing Cache

Blackboard also relies heavily on Java.  For this reason, it is important to make sure you have enabled java in your web browser by using the following guide.

It is also a good idea to periodically make sure that you are running the latest version of Java for your particular operating system.  Visiting the Java website will allow you to download and install the latest version of Java for your computer.

Just like you need to clear your browser’s cache, you should also periodically clear your Java cache using the steps provided at the bottom of the browser settings guide. You may also want to disable any browser tool-bars or add-ons that are installed in your web browser that could be interfering with the use of Blackboard.
