New Construction:

In the midst of a $300 million new-construction and renovation program, the campus of High Point University is currently experiencing the greatest period of growth in our 84-year history.

The University Center is scheduled to open August 21 with a total of 277,000 square feet and is situated on West College Drive, across from the Millis Athletic/Convocation Center.  The $65 million building will function as a one-stop shop of sorts– it will even include residential space for 500 students, as well as multiple dining venues, a cinema house, a convenience store and an entire floor of study areas – all under one roof. Among the dining facilities will be The Point Sports Grille, an interactive sports entertainment restaurant and community gaming center, similar to an ESPN Zone® concept.  In addition to the sports and entertainment venue, the University Center will have the Great Day Bakery, where students will be able to dine on fresh-baked breads, sandwiches, Panini, fresh salads and pastries. 1924 Prime Steakhouse will serve steaks, in addition to fresh fish and poultry entrees and unique vegetarian options.

The Plato S. Wilson Family School of Commerce is a $16 million, 60,000-square-foot building named in honor of Plato S. Wilson. It was made possible in large part by a financial gift from Wilson, a 40-year furniture sales and manufacturer’s representative for companies including Heritage, Henredon and Henkel-Harris.  The new building contains several spaces dedicated to business endeavors, such as a New York Stock Exchange-style investment trading room, complete with a real stock ticker and Reuters trading software, as well as a Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

The new state-of-the-art Nido R. Qubein School of Communication houses the University’s five communication-based majors including Electronic Media Production, Games and Interactive Media Design, Journalism, Media and Popular Culture Studies, and Strategic Communication.  Curriculum housed in the 60,000-square-foot school blends traditional liberal arts education and hands-on technical instruction with the latest communication technologies, taking academics far beyond the textbook and into the “real world.” The facility is equipped with an incredible array of high-tech instructional equipment and spaces including two high-definition TV production studios, computer labs, a multi-track audio recording studio, observation decks, 12 editing suites with Final Cut Pro and Pro Tools editing systems, a games/interactive communication development studio, classrooms and faculty offices, a library lounge with rare first-edition books, and the new HPU internet radio station.

Blessing Residence Hall is a $10 million facility made possible by the generous lead gift of one anonymous donor who requested we call it the "Blessing" residence hall. It is loaded with amenities that make it a prototype for 21st-century college residence halls. It offers 240 fully furnished, private bedrooms arranged in suites with living rooms, kitchens and dining areas. Residents enjoy spacious common areas, computer lounges, conference areas, laundry rooms and elevators.

Slane Student Center is a centerpiece of campus. This $6.5 million, 45,000-square-foot building connects to the original Slane Student Center via a two-story atrium and features a high-performance aerobics room, rock-climbing wall, indoor track, fully equipped weight room, food court, dramatic inside and outside basketball courts, outdoor swimming pool, sand volleyball courts, and a grand student atrium with billiard tables and sitting areas.

The Earl N. Phillips School of Business is a new 27,000-square-foot building that is the home for the more than 1,000 undergraduate students pursuing a degree in one of High Point University's 12 undergraduate majors and Master of Business Administration graduate degree. The facility features a 200-seat, tiered lecture hall, four smaller lecture rooms, traditional classrooms, a spacious auditorium, private study rooms, computer labs and faculty offices.

The Jerry & Kitty Steele Sports Center is a $5 million, two-story, 27,000-square-foot facility featuring training and weight rooms, a hospitality/conference room, locker rooms and an academic services room. In addition, another $5 million has been invested in a new soccer stadium, baseball stadium and eight-lane track.
University Park is an extraordinary outdoor experience. Featuring a network of trails and bridges, spectacular waterfalls, a 15-foot overhead trellis, multilevel reflecting pools, 65' covered walkway and an amphitheatre, this is the perfect place for an outdoor class, receptions, plays and programs.
