The High Point University AmeriCorps VISTA Program hosts eight VISTAs and a VISTA leader in the efforts to improve education and food security in the City of High Point. Four of the VISTAs will work on education and four will work on food security throughout the city. The HPU VISTAs serve as community change agents within their individual placements as well as the university. The HPU VISTAs meet weekly for check-ins, professional development trainings, and work on some projects together as a team. In addition, HPU supports some conference travel (travel for conferences).
Each VISTA works full-time for a year, and is provided with opportunities to expand their knowledge, put forth their skills, acquire new talents, develop strong networks, etc. The work of the HPU VISTAs is filled with new experiences every day. Throughout their work, VISTAs experience growth both personally and professionally.
Our community partners are crucial in helping the VISTAs to accomplish their work as well as build relationships within the High Point community.
All VISTAs live in houses owned and maintained by High Point University. They also receive a 19 meal dining plan during the academic year. In addition to the university’s generous donations, the VISTAs receive in-service benefits from the Corporation for National & Community Service.
