Beka Butts

October 29, 2014 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The Women’s and Gender Studies Program and Modern Foreign Language Department proudly present

Bekka Butts

In addition to speaking about her experiences as a female artist, Ms. Butts will address the relationship between art and political activism, with an emphasis on the “Lost Girls” of Ciudad Juárez. Over the past twenty years, more than 600 women and girls have been murdered in this region of Mexico. Ms. Butts’s talk will coincide with Día de los muertos, and in addition to her public lecture, Ms. Butts will hold a workshop for students where they will have the opportunity to make “Day of the Dead” altars in honor of the Juárez femicide victims.
