University Profile

High Point University is committed to academic excellence. With small classes, caring professors and a myriad of student success stories, we have positioned our University as a place for learners to thrive. The array of majors is vast and each has been uniquely designed to challenge, inspire and transform. Our core curriculum emphasizes the study of the liberal arts in the belief that there is no better way to encourage communication skills, critical thinking and personal integrity. HPU’s signature experiential learning program differentiates this collegiate experience from others, and reinforces what is taught in the classroom while providing students with resources for professional networking and practical knowledge of their fields.

Explore Before You Declare

Entering college as an undeclared major is not uncommon. With 44 majors and 43 minors to choose from, HPU provides courses of study for almost every interest. During the freshman year, students have the opportunity to discover their interests through our First Year Seminars. From art and baseball to genetics, music, fashion and psychology, HPU’s First Year Seminars are one-of-a kind courses that encourage freshmen to broaden their horizons. Based on individual faculty members’ research and creative expertise, these seminars introduce examples of sophisticated intellectual inquiry and life-long learning.

subject areas:
• Written Communication Skills

• Quantitative Reasoning
• Ethical Reasoning
• First-Year Seminar
• President’s Seminar/Health and Wellness Colloquia
• Physical Education Course Activity

Additionally, students choose electives from the Humanities and Arts as well as from the Natural and Social Sciences.
