As we celebrate Labor Day today, the time has come for us to start saying our goodbyes to Summer 2014.
This being said, it’s fitting that we celebrate the third week of our 52 weeks of #HighPointHappy by commemorating Summer 2014.
Our Summer-2014-In-Review brings you the top 10 stories and images from this summer at High Point University.
1. Keeping Good Company
News broke on June 9 that former Secretary of State, Colin L. Powell, joined High Point University’s National Board of Advisors. Shortly after this announcement was made, Fortune 500 CEOS, thought leaders and distinguished visionaries joined General Powell on the board. Check out the complete list here.
2. Breaking News
Speaking of news, on August 19 HPU announced that broadcast legend Tom Brokaw will serve as HPU’s 2015 Commencement Speaker.
3. Seeing Double
This summer, the parking lot behind Roberts Hall and the Slane Student Center became home to HPU’s new reflecting pond. We LOVE this new addition to campus. It’s absolutely breathtaking. [Photo credit: Lillian Bijl]
4. While the students are away the faculty will…GROW!
This summer we welcomed 35 new faculty members to the High Point University family, 21 of those being new positions.
5. Here we GROW again! Part I
On September 9, HPU will hold the official grand opening for our new 31,500-square-foot Athletic Performance Center, but students are already getting a sneak peak at the facility as they cheer on our men’s and women’s soccer team. This facility makes us want to break out the purple face paint — it’s A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! #GoPanthers
6. Here we GROW again! Part II
This summer, the portion of Montlieu Avenue between College Drive and Centennial Street closed as site preparation begins for the School of Health Sciences and School of Pharmacy facility. Major work will be done to that site this year and in years to come.
7. Here we GROW again! Part III
This summer we also opened the doors to our state-of-the-art temporary Physician Assistant Studies space. It includes stellar technology like high-fidelity mannequins who are incredibly life-like (they blink, can communicate, react to medications, sweat, cry, have tongues that can swell and limbs you can draw “blood” from), as well as patient exam and clinic rooms. The PA program begins, pending successful accreditation, in June 2015.
8. Painting the town PURPLE
Prowler is a modern day renaissance man. On July 25 he showed us a side of him we had never seen – Prowler the Painter! Prowler, with the help of professionals, gave Carolina’s Diner a pop of [purple] color. #OurCityOurUniversity
9. Birthday Planning
On September 13, High Point University will turn the big 9-0! Break out the party hats and get the confetti ready, this is a celebration you will not want to miss. Decorations are already popping up around campus. #HPUis90
10. Home Sweet High Point
Last, but definitely not least, on August 23 we welcomed home the HPU Class of 2018.The Class of 2018 is the largest class in university history. Meet the class here. #hpu2018
Summer 2014 was filled with an endless amount of #HighPointHappy –ness.
Fall 2014, it’s now your time to shine!
Until Next Monday,
