Panther Fall Sports Update

Between the soccer field, volleyball court, locker room and the newly renovated Witcher Athletic Center, the High Point University athletic department and teams have had a busy start to the fall semester! Here’s a quick Panther Fall Sports re-cap incase you’ve missed anything!

Men’s soccer has begun its season with a solid foundation including two back-to-back wins over Presbyterian and UNC Asheville. Our women’s soccer team has earned five wins this season, making a name for themselves as top competitors in the Big South. On the volleyball court, the Panthers have experienced a series of both upsets and sweeps, including wins over Furman, North Florida, Davidson and UNC Greensboro.

In addition to a successful start to the season, the men’s soccer team recently received news that an HPU player is now an all-time scorer in the program’s NCAA Division I era. Mamadee Nyepon, senior attacker, was given this title after scoring 34 goals this season. The men’s soccer team has had a great season on the field this year, and the fans have shown their full support. High Point soccer fans were recently put in the Top 10 Student Game Attendance category for a Division I soccer team.

HPU’s Athletic Department has experience multiple new updates. In addition to the new Witch Athletic Center,  HPU has also announced the new Athletic Hall of Fame, coming in 2015. The creation of this Hall of Fame is set to honor outstanding student-athletes and coaches and the service they have given to better HPU’s athletics, and to recognize individuals who exemplify ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character and excellent classroom performance. An induction ceremony is to take place on June 6, 2015.

Over the past decade, the school has undergone numerous updates and renovations, and athletic facilities have not been left out of this transformation. As HPU’s president Dr. Nido Qubein has noted, “The commitment High Point University is showing to academics and athletics is part of the overall 10-year transformational plan that serves the needs of our students and supports the programs of our faculty.”

On the field and off, High Point University has had a successful start to the fall semester. With all the new improvements in the athletic department, our sports teams are sure to achieve even greater success not only in this fall season, but in the future of our University.

Make sure to keep track of your favorite sports teams this season whether on the road or at home through highpointpanthers.com, or on Twitter. Go HPU Panthers!
