{"id":14056,"date":"2014-09-22T14:08:07","date_gmt":"2014-09-22T14:08:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.highpoint.edu\/admissions\/?page_id=14056"},"modified":"2025-01-09T10:18:12","modified_gmt":"2025-01-09T15:18:12","slug":"english-proficiency-requirements","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.highpoint.edu\/admissions\/international-students\/english-proficiency-requirements\/","title":{"rendered":"English Proficiency Requirements"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Forms of English Proficiency<\/h4>\n<p>Non-native English speakers have demonstrated the minimum English language proficiency required for admission if they have completed any of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Taken an official <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ets.org\/toefl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TOEFL<\/a>\u00a0(iBT) and received a score of 80 or higher.\u00a0The school code for TOEFL is 5293.<\/li>\n<li>Taken an official\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ielts.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IELTS<\/a>\u00a0and received a score of 6.5 or higher.<\/li>\n<li>Taken an official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.duolingo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Duolingo<\/a> and received a score of 105 or higher.<\/li>\n<li>Taken an official 4-skills <a href=\"https:\/\/michiganassessment.org\/michigan-tests\/m-ept\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MELAB<\/a> and received a score of 77 or higher.<\/li>\n<li>Taken an official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.itepexam.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">iTEP<\/a> and received a 3.8 or higher.<\/li>\n<li>Taken an official SAT English exam and received a score of 500 or higher. The school code for SAT is 5293.<\/li>\n<li>Taken an official ACT English exam and received a score of 20 or higher. The school code for ACT is 3108.<\/li>\n<li>Successfully completed the <a href=\"https:\/\/interlink.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">INTERLINK<\/a> Intensive English Program.<\/li>\n<li>Successfully completed ELS Level 112 at an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.els.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ELS Language Center<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Attended for 2 consecutive years, and graduated from, an accredited U.S. high school.<\/li>\n<li>Obtained an official score of 4 or higher on either the IB Higher Level Language examination in English, or the AP Program examination in English Language.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Upon admission to High Point University, all non-native English speakers are required to take an ESL (English as a Second Language) placement exam. \u00a0The results of this exam will determine whether the student will be required to take 0-16 hours of credit-bearing ESL classes during the first two semesters at High Point University. \u00a0Any required ESL classes will fulfill the Foreign Language portion of the General Education (Core) Requirements.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Forms of English Proficiency Non-native English speakers have demonstrated the minimum English language proficiency required for admission if they have completed any of the following: Taken an official TOEFL\u00a0(iBT) and received a score of 80 or higher.\u00a0The school code for TOEFL is 5293.
