HIGH POINT, N.C., July 12, 2011 – The Department of History at High Point University will host world-renowned history professor Peter H. Wilson, G.F. Grant Professor of History, Director of Research and Deputy Head of Department at the University of Hull in the United Kingdom. He will serve as a visiting scholar for the summer 2011.
Wilson, who received his doctorate degree at Jesus College, Cambridge, is the leading international scholar on early modern German history. His book, “Europe’s Tragedy: A History of the Thirty Years War” (published in the United States as “The Thirty Years War: Europe’s Tragedy”), won the Society for Military History Distinguished Book Award in 2011, and received accolades in the London Times shortly after publication.
During his time as a visiting scholar, Wilson will teach a graduate seminar on the Thirty Years War for students in the Master of Arts History program, as well as two workshops – one on the Thirty Years War and another for local social studies teachers on war, violence and change in history.

The Master of Arts History program at HPU was established in 2006. The program offers master’s degrees in United States, European, and non-Western history, as well as a minor in military history.
