HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 4, 2011 – Dr. Joseph Blosser has joined High Point University as the director of service learning and assistant professor of religion and philosophy.
As director of service learning, he will serve as a community advocate as he helps students and faculty engage with local organizations outside of the classroom to provide meaningful service. Blosser will also teach courses such as business ethics, theology and social ethics.
Prior to joining HPU, Blosser taught at DePaul University in Chicago. He has also served as an ordained minister to local congregations and to Rockefeller Memorial Chapel at the University of Chicago.
Blosser says he is excited to begin his work at HPU because the university is so committed to being a vibrant part of the community. Also, he says that because HPU teaches ethics across the curriculum, it can educate students to be responsible citizens in any chosen profession.
“The rapid growth of HPU makes this the perfect time to assist faculty with teaching courses that involve service to the community and to cultivate the growing ethos around campus that pushes all students to critically engage their responsibility to others,” says Blosser.
Blosser earned a Bachelor of Science from Texas Christian University in economics and religion, a Master of Divinity from Vanderbilt University, and a Ph.D. in religious ethics from the University of Chicago.
HPU students volunteer more than 30,000 hours each year locally, nationally and internationally and raise nearly $100,000 in funds for non-profit organizations.
