HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 22, 2011 – High Point University will gather around the Christmas tree and welcome in the holiday season with a special Lessons and Carols Candlelight Service at 5 p.m. on Dec. 7 in the Hayworth Chapel. The event is open to the public.
The heartwarming service – based on the traditional festival of lessons and carols observed at King’s College Chapel in Cambridge, England – will feature members of the university community, the HPU Department of Music, Dr. Marc Foster, the Chapel Choir, the Board of Stewards, Alpha Delta Theta sorority and Delta Iota Alpha fraternity.
Following the candlelight service, those present are invited to walk directly outside the chapel for the lighting of the Hayworth Chapel Christmas Tree and the signing of Christmas carols around the tree.
The service will be broadcast live to the Chapel fellowship hall to accommodate overflow attendance and parents with small children. It will also be broadcast via Internet and live streaming for those who cannot attend in person. The Web address is www.highpoint.edu/chapel/services.
