HIGH POINT, N.C., Dec. 27, 2011 – Dr. Leslie Cavendish was recently hired as assistant professor of education at High Point University.
In her new position, Cavendish will be responsible for teaching elementary education courses and working alongside Montlieu Elementary to provide the Book Buddies, Reading Tutors and Literacy Night programs. Additionally, she will be working with graduate students with their final practicum experience.
Cavendish says she is excited to be a part of such a growing university. “I get the sense that I am only limited by my imagination at HPU, so I hope to dream and create,” she says.
“I will support students to become the best and most well-prepared educators they can be so they can go out and have a positive impact on their own students,” says Cavendish. “I want to make certain HPU students recognize their role and responsibilities as global citizens and share a global perspective with others.”
Cavendish has previous experience teaching and living overseas in Bahrain, Malaysia and China. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Central College in Iowa, a Master of Arts in developmental reading from the University of Iowa, and a Doctorate in language, literacy and culture from the University of Iowa.
