HIGH POINT, N.C., March 28, 2012 – The Kappa Delta Sorority at High Point University recently hosted the “All Things Southern” Fishing Tournament to raise awareness of child abuse to support the sorority’s cause – preventing child abuse. The event raised $2,100.
Eighty percent of the proceeds will be sent to the sorority’s local beneficiary, Family Service of the Piedmont, as a part of their focus revolves around preventing child abuse. The other 20 percent will go to Prevent Child Abuse America to save the lives of children. Because of Kappa Delta’s national involvement with the philanthropy, 3,500 families are helped each year.
“It’s extremely important to raise awareness of preventing child abuse throughout our community,” says Alyssa McFarland, vice president of community service for the sorority. “There are many ways to prevent child abuse and it is very important to be aware of ways to recognize it, prevent it and encourage people to report it.”
In addition to the tournament, the event also included a corn hole tournament, a sweet tea chugging and biscuit eating competition, a cooler painting competition and barbecue catered by Carter Brothers BBQ.
