HIGH POINT, N.C., March 9, 2012 – High Point University will celebrate its talented students by hosting an evening of music at the annual Spring Instrumental Ensemble Concert. The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. on March 22 in the Pauline Theatre of the Hayworth Fine Arts Center on the HPU Campus. The event is open to the public.
The concert will feature two university student ensembles, the HPU Percussion Ensemble and the University Band.
The theme for the concert is “Rhythm and Color.” With the Percussion Ensemble and University Band, the music will explore the various forms of rhythm and color found in percussion and band music. The Percussion Ensemble will feature works composed by percussion instructor, Dr. Nathan Daughtrey, and saxophone instructor, Robert Faub, will be a featured soloist. The University Band will perform some of the most dynamic band works of the 20th century, including selections by Percy Grainger and Samuel Hazo, and renowned composer and former Greensboro resident, John Barnes Chance.
“The Instrumental Ensemble Spring Concert will explore the fascinating world of rhythm and color in instrumental music,” says Dr. Danny Frye, director of instrumental studies. “The concert will show how all the instruments can create smooth grooves, complicated rhythmic patterns, and dynamic instrumental colors. We look forward to welcoming the community.”
No tickets are required. The doors will open at 7 p.m., and the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.
