HIGH POINT, N.C., July 9, 2012 – Three High Point University students gained behind-the-scenes knowledge of the media and news industry by participating in the Broadcast Development Program at WFMY News 2, the local CBS affiliate in Greensboro.
The program is designed for students who are not majoring in broadcast or communication as a way to introduce students in other disciplines, which range from accounting, computer science, marketing and more, to the opportunities that the television industry has to offer.
The HPU students who attended the day-long event are Sarah Martin, Lenae Frazier and Melissa Plunkett. They learned first-hand how each department and area work to fulfill the overall mission of providing news and information to the community.
“In today’s times, through social media, the web and more, our lives are becoming shared content. It is critical that students of all disciplines have some understanding of the business of news & information gathering,” says Carol Davis, instructor of communication at HPU. “This is the best way to both protect the student’s personal brand and to be a dominant purveyor of information.”
At High Point University, every student receives an extraordinary education in an inspiring environment with caring people.℠ HPU, located in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina, is a liberal arts institution with over 4,200 undergraduate and graduate students at campuses in High Point and Winston-Salem.
