HIGH POINT, N.C., July 30, 2014 – Dr. Bill Cosby, one of the most influential performers of our time, was recently appointed to High Point University’s National Board of Advisors.
The board is comprised of leaders in education, Fortune 500 CEOs and distinguished visionaries. Other distinguished members include Gen. Colin Powell, former secretary of state, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and national security advisor; Steve Wozniak, Apple co-founder; Dr. James Moeser, chancellor emeritus at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Ron Wanek, founder and chairman of Ashley Furniture; Marty Flanagan, president and CEO of Invesco Ltd.; Kelly King, chairman and CEO of BB&T; Bonnie McElveen-Hunter, CEO & Owner of Pace Communications, Chairwoman of the American Red Cross and former U.S. Ambassador to Finland; Kurt L. Darrow, President and CEO of La-Z-Boy; and Rich Handler, CEO and Director of Leucadia and CEO and Chairman of the Board for Jeffries Group.

Cosby, an entertainment pioneer with producer, writer, director and actor credits, is the recipient of multiple Grammys, Emmys and People’s Choice Awards. His cultural impact has been recognized over the years with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award; the Kennedy Center’s Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes living individuals who have made significant contributions to American culture through the performing arts; the Mark Twain Prize which recognizes people who have had an impact on American Society; and many more. He also holds a Doctor of Education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Best known for his portrayal of Dr. Cliff Huxtable on “The Cosby Show,” his success spans five decades and includes everything from stand-up comedy to award winning performances in television and movies to writing best-selling books on fatherhood. Cosby is set to star as a patriarchal figure once again in a new show currently being developed.
In addition to his successful career, Cosby is involved in multiple charity organizations and makes substantial gifts to support education.
