10 Things To Do Before Commencement

Commencement is just around the corner and we are anxiously awaiting the graduation celebrations and traditions such as watching the bald eagle fly over our graduating class and  welcoming a global thought leader to campus to address our students! This year, we welcome CNN’s Wolf Blitzer as our 2017 Commencement Speaker. Blitzer will join the ranks of many distinguished and insightful leaders that we have had the privilege of hearing from right here on Roberts Hall Lawn. With so many things to look forward to about Commencement, here is a list of 10 things to do as you count down the days:

1 Download the HPUGrad app! Essential for your Senior Week schedule, ticketing info, helpful tips for your parents and guests, local dining and reservations and more! Get up-to-the-minute push notifications about schedule changes etc. Download the HPUGrad App here!

2Register for your graduation photos! By pre-registering with Grad Images, you will get an email when the photos of you walking across the #HPUGrad2017 stage are available! P.S. you can even set it up to email mom and dad directly, too!

3Pick up your tickets! Tickets are required for your parents to attend Baccalaureate, and The Senior Sendoff “Onward with Faithful Courage” as well as Commencement (only in the event of inclement weather). Be sure to pick up your tickets on Thursday, April 27th at the Wanek Center Philanthropy tables, beginning at 8:30AM. We hear there will even be coffee and donuts available at ticket pick-up.

4Thank your mentor! People don’t know you are grateful for them until you actually tell them that you are. Use those leftover dining dollars to surprise your mentor with a coffee or write them a handwritten note to thank them.Tag #HPUMentor to show your appreciation on social too!

5Make reservations! Don’t forget to make reservations at your favorite High Point restaurant for you and your family on graduation day! While you’re at it, just go ahead and get a last burrito at Barbs and coffee at DeBeen.

6Keep us in the loop! We want to brag about you! Share your job or grad school news with us here!

7Decorate your #HPUGrad2017 cap!  Don’t forget to share it with us! Use #HPUGrad2017 for photos of your decorated cap, and all your other graduation photos for that matter.

8Save the date for HPU Homecoming! Come back and visit with your classmates, favorite professors and see what’s new on campus! We already can’t wait to have you back home! Follow HPU Alumni on social: Facebook: HighPointU Alumni Twitter: @hpualum Instagram: @hpualum

9Take a sculpture selfie! You did it at Orientation Weekend as an incoming freshman. Go ahead and bring it full circle.

10Take HPU to the office! Grab a frame for your diploma, a purple coffee mug or an HPU lapel pin for your suit jacket so you can keep us close by at your new fancy post-grad job! We are so proud that data from the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) shows 95 percent of the Class of 2015 and the Class of 2016 were employed or in graduate school within six months of graduation! Here are 5 things to do on your 1st day at the office. Good Luck, we are proud of you!
