HIGH POINT, N.C., Feb. 27, 2019 – High Point University will join with the YWCA High Point in celebrating the city’s rich and diverse community of women at the International Women’s Day Celebration. The event will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on March 5 at the YWCA High Point. The event is free and open to the public.
International Women’s Day is a worldwide celebration acknowledging the contributions of women to society and the importance of gender equality. This event will include food, music and performances and connect women from all over the world who live in High Point. A kid zone will be available for children to enjoy arts, crafts, games and face painting.
The event will also feature research, coursework and service projects from HPU Women’s and Gender Studies courses.
“International Women’s Day is an opportunity for High Point’s University to celebrate the cultural diversity of our community and the achievements of women around the world,” says Dr. Alixandra Yanus, interim director of Women’s and Gender Studies at HPU. “The Women’s and Gender Studies program, in particular, is grateful for this opportunity to partner with the YWCA to bring this event to the international city of High Point.”
The local celebration goes along with this year’s global International Women’s Day theme, “Balance for Better,” which encourages communities toward a more balanced world that empowers women of all diversities.
